Mono Cafe Bar – Call for design proposals. An opportunity to design an enduring / permanent part of Mono’s interior.
Mono is seeking proposals from designers/visual artists (solo or groups) to create a piece of artwork to cover or be displayed on one of the inner walls of the venue.
As a vegan restaurant, record store and music / arts space, Mono is in a state of constant evolution. With the Good Press Gallery having recently taken on their own premises, we are looking for proposals for a piece or art which can enliven a specific part of the space – the southern inner wall at the front end of the venue.
Of particular interest are ideas which resonate with the venue’s ethos as a space for sharing ideas – creative, social, political – and a space for working collaboratively across artistic disciplines and backgrounds.
Mono is open to all including people of all ages. We invite and encourage carefully considered, enlivening and challenging proposals which will contribute to this context.
This call for works is the latest in a yearly call associated with the Merchant City Festival. Previous artists/groups who have contributed to this programme include Lithic Grid, Adrian Howells and ALGORHYTHM.
Please send details of your proposal (500 words approx) to firstname.lastname@example.org detailing the following:
– description of idea including size and materials used
– artist/s involved
– links to other relevant work
– contact details
using the email title “Mono design proposal 2015”.
The closing date for submissions is Monday 13th July.
The date for completion and installation of the new design is Thur 30th July with an official opening on Sat 1st August.
We can offer a fee/materials budget of £500 for the chosen proposal, which will be an enduring installation within Mono.
This design call is part of Mono’s programme for Merchant City Festival and is part-funded by Glasgow Life.
*NB: We cannot confirm at this stage whether the piece will be permanently displayed, as this depends on the details of the proposal, and other factors within Mono as a shared space. We will however work to have the artwork displayed for maximum time possible (if appropriate) and this may be permanent.
