Emerging from Edinburgh’s underground, electronic duo Chuchoter blend gripping pop vocal melodies with precise, striking synthesis. Inspired by a mix of modern pop and disco, their deep-soul vocals,
strong, self-assured lyrics and dirty production create a fresh sound with a club focus. Hailing from rural Aberdeenshire they grew up on James Taylor, The Smiths and Hall and Oates, but have strayed far
from their original influences, now leaning towards artists such as Bossy Love, Shamir, Chvrches and Jamie xx. The band is a qualified pop effort made up of vocalist Emily Smith and producer Owen McAllister. Having both studied Music at the University of Edinburgh their goal is to create pop music that is both accessible and stimulating. Emily has just graduated and Owen is now a freelance audio engineer in Edinburgh/Glasgow.
Chuchoter have vastly increased their presence in the Scottish music scene, having self-released their EP “PIECES” and played a plethora of shows, (including impressive supports slots for Kllo,
Wyvern Lingo, and Scarlet) a Friday slot at Electric Fields and featuring in “The List: Hot 100”. In 2019 they have solidified themselves as ones to watch, with support from the likes of Vic Galloway and their single “U Can Find” being chosen as single of the week on the Janice Forsyth show. In terms of live performance they have supported Walt Disco at their sold out King Tuts show, played a plethora of showcases such as Wide Days, The Great Escape and Xpo North and securing various festival slots such as Stag & Dagger, Kelburn Garden Party, Doune the Rabbit Hole and Belladrum.
Their new release ‘Crush’ is an EP that pulls no punches and spares no feelings Following on from their recent EP Gorilla, Chuchoter hit harder with more fat bass drops and more cutting feminist lyrics than before. Featuring songs themed on manipulation and deceit – this EP acts as a rebellion against the idea of the domicile and ever-obedient woman. McAllister’s driving rhythms and unique harmonies mix with Smith’s raw and exposing lyrics to create a musical experience of resistance and dissent.
